Spine and pain management specialists use ergonomics to eliminate the physical stresses and environmental factors that cause back discomfort. Prolonged sitting or standing can aggravate existing back pain and cause serious back problems that require additional medical treatment.
Physical stressors include repetitive motions, vibrations, and working in an awkward position. Over time, problems such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or back injuries can occur. Spine and pain management treats only some of these problems, of course, but all of these medical conditions are painful.
Environmental factors are less important for spine and pain management, but are still considered part of ergonomics. Improper lighting may cause workers to contort their bodies to read computer screens or electronic displays, leading to physical stressors.
